RYA Youth Sailing Courses (members and non-members)
Our popular school holiday courses are a fantastic way for young people to get out on the water, build confidence and have fun.

We offer 2-day and 5-day courses following the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme (Stages 1–4), providing a clear pathway from beginner to confident sailor. Participants work towards nationally recognised RYA certificates as they progress.

Sessions are led by qualified instructors in a safe, supportive and friendly environment, where children can make friends, learn new skills and enjoy being on the water.

Some good things to know

All our junior sessions and courses are run under the supervision of an RYA Senior Instructor and delivered by qualified RYA Instructors, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.

For Thursday and Saturday sessions, parents are required to remain on site, and we really encourage you to get involved, either supporting the session or going sailing yourself!

Juniors can attend from the age of 8 years old.

All junior attendance must be booked in advance.

Junior Instructing at WHSC

Become an RYA Instructor

We support our older juniors (from age 14) to take their first steps towards becoming RYA instructors.

Through funded training, they can qualify as RYA Assistant Instructors and start helping to run sessions at the club. It’s a great way to build confidence, develop leadership skills and be part of a supportive team — all while spending more time on the water with friends.

Many go on to become fully qualified RYA Dinghy Instructors, opening up even more opportunities within the sport.

Duke of Edinburgh (DofE)

Work towards your Bronze, Silver or Gold at WHSC

Welsh Harp Sailing Club is a great place to complete sections of your Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Sailing can count towards the Physical section, while helping with sessions and supporting club activities can contribute to the Volunteering section at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.

We’re happy to support participants throughout their DofE journey and can sign off logbooks where appropriate. Several of our juniors have successfully completed parts of their Award with us.
