Wind NW light breeze. Course 1,2,3,4
The winter usually serves up a few weekends of the light stuff. This was the first. Light Air or Light Breeze take your pick,by one-o-clock there was enough wind to provide some entertainment. After weeks of capsize practise and heaving on genoa sheets, novice crews could learn some new skills. Ease the sails and keep the genoa tell-tales streaming. Race winners Frank and Sophie expertly trimmed their main and genoa managing to stay at the front of the fleet without flying their spinnaker. The tightness of the reach from 2 to 3 meant the chasing boats struggled to make gains with their kites up.
Some congestion at the windward mark in the second race - boats that stayed in the breeze in the middle were left with a port tack approach on the layline to the mark. It can be a long way round ducking those approaching on starboard, and a late tack within three boat lengths of the mark lengths is very risky. Mahmood was once again first over the line and Demi first Bronze helm.
