Blowing a hooly, having a blast!

Variously known as the (BTYC) Commodores Cup, Bonfire Cup and the newly christened Autumn Trophy the hardy souls that turned up for the Autumn open stared over the dam wall with some trepidation.  Forecasts for gusts of 40 knots plus might warrant some tinkering with rig settings.  The OOD John Shep set a simple courses, a long beat and run , no gybe marks on the downwind leg to reduce the risk of capsizes.

The whole fleet of 13 GP14s bar one boat went in!   Some graceful broaches on the run, one boat went over metres from the start on the first tack and another tacking for the line at the finish. As well as keeping relatively dry Mark and Alain, sailed the conditions better than the rest and won the first two races to take the trophy. The third race was closely contested and went to Richard Ham and Steve Browne.

Thanks to the event team - our OOD and safety boat crews and volunteer chefs for the bacon sarnies, lasagne lunch and cakes for tea!
